Nick Clegg, President of Global Affairs at Meta and former Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

On February 14th, we had the privilege of partnering with Munich Security Conference to host Nick Clegg, President of Global Affairs at Meta and former Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, for an engaging and insightful discussion on the future of artificial intelligence, technological innovation, and the importance of responsible technology.

The event provided a comprehensive exploration of Meta’s evolution from a social media platform to a leading force in artificial intelligence and hardware innovation. From open-source AI models to groundbreaking technologies such as the Orion smart glasses, attendees were granted an exclusive preview of the company’s forward-looking vision.

In addition to his insights on the technological landscape, Sir Nick shared invaluable leadership lessons from his extensive experience in both the political and tech sectors. His reflections on navigating change, making decisive choices, and leading in an increasingly interconnected world were particularly inspiring and thought-provoking.

A particularly impactful moment of the evening came when Sir Nick spoke about the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in our everyday lives. He remarked: “Everybody here will very soon be able to have an ideal AI. A sort of executive assistant that manages our life.” As AI continues to advance at an unprecedented rate, the concept of a personalized, AI-driven assistant is rapidly moving from possibility to reality. This vision of AI as a highly integrated, human-like presence has profound implications for how we interact with technology, ultimately enhancing our personal and professional lives.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Nick Clegg for generously sharing his time and expertise with us. We also wish to express our sincere appreciation to all those who attended the second of three events in this series. Additionally, we thank Prof. Dr. Gerhard Kramer for his insightful opening remarks and Annett Wöhrle for expertly moderating the discussion.
